Endangered Species

Scientists have identified only around 2 million species in the world, but it is estimated that there could be as many as 100 million different species on the Earth. Many species become extinct every year before we even know they exist.

If animals or plants are threatened, it means that they may become endangered if we do not take immediate actions to protect them. Worldwide, there are about 1000 animals listed as endangered and 200 listed as threatened. They are in danger of becoming extinct forever.

Many reasons cause endangerment and possible extinction of the species such as habitat loss, pollution, poaching, and global warming.

These are examples of endangered animals: tiger, sea turtle, rhinoceros, elephant, hornbill, orang utan etc.

These are some examples of endangered plants: Rafflesia, black pitcher plant, tualang tree, mangrove plants etc.

Here are some examples of extinct animals: dinosaurs, dodo, aquagga, mammoth etc.
