Environmental Protection

Warning! The Earth systems are under threat! Human beings carry out many activities to meet their needs for a better and more comfortable life. These developments are destroying our environment. They cause soil erosion, landslides, flash floods, water pollution, air pollution, species extinction, and etc. We are destroying the Earth, and now, we have to save the Earth.

Environmental protection is what we can do. In just a simple way, you can help to protect the environment. Well, let’s see what you can do~ [Some examples]
  • Always turn off your computer and television, not ‘standby’ mode.
  • Turning lights and fans off when you are not in the room.
  • Try not to switch on your air-cond.
  • Do not drop litter because birds and animals can mistake litter for food. End up, the litter can be in the sea and eaten by fish.
  • Instead of taking the car, get your bicycle out or take the bus No. 11 (walking).
  • Uses both sides of the papers.

There are many ways to protect the environment. Most importantly, remember the 3R- Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

What else can we do to protect the environment? Share your ideas with us~

Endangered Species

Scientists have identified only around 2 million species in the world, but it is estimated that there could be as many as 100 million different species on the Earth. Many species become extinct every year before we even know they exist.

If animals or plants are threatened, it means that they may become endangered if we do not take immediate actions to protect them. Worldwide, there are about 1000 animals listed as endangered and 200 listed as threatened. They are in danger of becoming extinct forever.

Many reasons cause endangerment and possible extinction of the species such as habitat loss, pollution, poaching, and global warming.

These are examples of endangered animals: tiger, sea turtle, rhinoceros, elephant, hornbill, orang utan etc.

These are some examples of endangered plants: Rafflesia, black pitcher plant, tualang tree, mangrove plants etc.

Here are some examples of extinct animals: dinosaurs, dodo, aquagga, mammoth etc.

Icebergs

Global warming has caused the temperature of the Earth become higher and continues to rise. The Earth becomes warmer also caused the icebergs to melt and turn into water. Then, the water level in the sea will rise and the water in the oceans will expand.

What is an iceberg? Icebergs are pieces of ice that formed on land and float in an ocean or lake. They come in all sizes and shapes. It can be small like an ice-cube or big as the size of small country. However, the term “iceberg” means chunks of ice larger than 5 meter across.

If the sea level continues to raise, many countries such as West Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, etc would get submerged under the water.

Start from now, protect our Earth and take good care of her. Before it is too late~

Greenhouse Effect

http://www.clean-air-kids.org.uk/globalwarming.html

Do you know what greenhouse effect is? It is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because of certain gases in the atmosphere. Some examples for the gases are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water vapour. These gases trap energy from the sun. If there are no such gases, the heat would escape back into the space and the Earth will get much colder.

So, greenhouse effect actually keeps the Earth’s climate warm and habitable. Without greenhouse effect, the Earth would not be warm enough for us to live. However, if the effect becomes stronger, it could make our mother Earth become warmer than usual, like getting fever.

Below is an animation link for you to get a clearer idea about greenhouse effect. There is a quiz game too! Check this out~
